What Parents Should Know About Coronavirus

Should you cancel spring break? Talk to your kids about it? We’ve got answers.
A roundup of new guidance and stories from NYT Parenting.

As coronavirus continues to spread across the globe, we’re working to answer the questions on many parents’ minds. The first question might be: How high is the risk for my family? “The good news is that cases in children have been very rare,” said Dr. H. Dana Goldstein and Julie Bosman explored what an outbreak in the United States would mean for schools. And, Rebecca Kanthor, a journalist in Shanghai, explained how she’s managing her worries — and her kids — while under lockdown in her apartment.

Your kids might have questions about the virus, too; I wrote about how to talk about coronavirus without creating anxiety in your kids; the first step is processing your own fears.
