On Politics: House Democrats vow to subpoena White House

President Trump lashed out in sometimes profane terms as Democrats pursue impeachment.

Good Thursday morning. Here are some of the stories making news in Washington and politics today.

  • The White House had thus far ignored voluntary requests submitted by the House Intelligence and Foreign Affairs Committees for documents related to President Trump's efforts to pressure Ukraine into investigating a leading political rival. If they don't comply by Friday, House Democrats said they planned to subpoena the White House.
  • The World Trade Organization granted the United States permission to tax as much as $7.5 billion of European exports annually. The Trump administration decided that it would impose those tariffs on European aircraft, French wine and cheese, Spanish olive oil and other goods starting Oct. 18.

Today's On Politics briefing was compiled by Isabella Grullón Paz in New York.
